MONTAGE IT FINAL PRESENTATION

In my final montages, I think the black and white montages worked a lot better than the colour image of my night time montage because the black and white images helped to increase the feeling of darkness and loneliness, while the colour image didn't do so. However, I still kept the night time image in colour because when converted in to black and white, the image became very dull. This was due to the large amount of warm colours in the image, because warm colours tend to become very dull when convereted in to grayscale. Otherwise, I think my final montages communicated my ideas a lot better than my previous ones, and I think the exterior and interior ideas communicated at the same time with different areas of the same idea being conveyed to the viewer. In the future, I would try to improve by thinking of ways to communicate my ideas more deeply and clearly because I think I could've showed much more depth in my montages, especially the night time.

MONTAGE IT WK 2

Previously, I did not have an idea I wanted to communicate through the montages. Therefore, I listened to the advice from my tutor, Helena, and took lyrics in one of my favourite songs by my client, John Mayer, to communicate through my montage. The lyric was "When you're dreaming with a broken heart, the wakin' up is the hardest part." When I applied this lyric to my own experience, it became much more personal and I began to have ideas of what I wanted to convey in my montages. One of the ideas I wanted to communicate was how hard it is to step back in to the reality and move forward when you're so insecure about yourself and all you do is looking back at the past, wishing it to come back. This was one of the main reasons why I chose a quiet site to show the emptiness of the feeling. I think what worked well was the shadow effect in my night time montage because it increased the feeling of loneliness in the montage.

MONTAGE IT WK 1

One of the most important techniques I learnt for montage making would be getting corresponding direction of light to the photo image when taking photographs of the model. This helped the model to look correct in place. I also learnt how the shadows help the design to sit in place without looking like it's floating above the ground. Adding people helped the image to become more lively.

After the 'Model it' course, I believe modelling is an important process for not only a modelmaker but for architects as well because so many ideas can be communicated in a single model depending on what materials, forms and other factors incorporated in the model. I think I learnt much more in 'Model it' than I did in 'Draw it' because every time I made a model, I learnt something new and interesting about modelling. By using various of materials throughout the course, I learnt which materials are appropriate for which kind of modelling and how a model can be taken abstractly or literally to communicate the idea you wish to convey.

MODEL IT WK3 FISHER HOUSE

Fishe House model was a big challenge for me because the design may look very simple but it has a large amount of details and I tried to include as much as details I could. Even though I did the fisher house for my 'draw it,' making the model helped me to learn a lot more about the interior detail which I did not focus much on before. This helped me to learn the differences of drawing and modeling and how they help you to focus on different areas of the design.

 

MODEL IT WK2 HOME TASK

The site model of Fisher House was a really good experience for me because it was my first time maiking a site model as well as using white card for a model. One thing I definitely learnt from this was that site model takes a really long time to complete, and therefore, you must plan out your time very well beforehand to avoid doing it till the last minute. White cards required a lot of strength to cut, especially for the curves, but they had the benefit of giving very smooth edges. Even though it was a good experience, next time I would like to be more creative and put in more innovation. in to the model.

I was unhappy with the first model I made because it did not show much creativity and I figured that the main reason for this was because I was afraid of being wrong. Therefore, when I did my second model, I tried to be much braver and put some creativity in to the design. I was able to learn an important lesson from this quick exercise to be much braver and to not worry about being wrong because in the end, there's no right and wrong in a design.

MODEL IT WK1 HOME TASK

Barcelona Pavilion was my first time using Balsa wood for modelling. Through this modelling exercise, I learnt the difficulties and the advantages of using balsa wood. The main important technique I learnt would be how cutting balsa wood in the same direction as their streaks gives finer edges and takes less strength. This way, I was able to produce a model with fine edges, also with the use of sand paper.
